About Byculla, Mumbai

Byculla is a southern suburb of Mumbai that was once known to be an esteemed European Enclave in the 18th century. It also has one of the oldest railway stations, which was initially structured by wooden architecture and was rebuilt in 1857. Byculla is near Ghodapdeo, Nagpada, Mazgaon, Chinchpokli Lalbaug, and Agrapada and is a green dwelling pocket surrounded by highways, expressways, and flyways. Early in the 18th century, Mumbai was formed by the conglomeration of 7 islands, out of which one was Mazgaon. Byculla emerges as a seamless, natural extension of Mazgaon. Early in that era, Byculla was categorized as a low-lying marshy area that used to get submerged every time the city witnessed high tides. Later, in 1784, the Hornby Vellard project combined all seven islands into a single landmass, which was further marked by the construction of Bellasis Road in the year 1793, which opened doorways for construction in Byculla. Soon after this, the Europeans started migrating to Byculla, spurring the transformation of Byculla into a rich and opulent locality.
